What can I put decals on? A comprehensive list for your décor needs

I recently gave a decal to a friend and after thanking me, she asked a question that surprised me.

“Can I put this on my car?”

My reaction was, “Of course you can! Why wouldn’t you be able to?” But I realized that for as much as I talk about making vinyl decals, I don’t spend much time talking about how they can be used. Let’s try to rectify that here!

There will always be variances and exceptions because not all adhesive vinyl is the same. Some vinyl is designed for outdoor use while other vinyl is for indoor only. Some is heavy duty and made for high traffic floor signs and other types are made to be temporary for small displays.  When it comes to the vinyl I use, it’s typically professional grade stuff that’s designed to last at least 3-5 years outside without wearing or fading. Not quite so high end that you’d use it to wrap a car (although wrap vinyl is a completely different type of vinyl anyway, but I digress), but higher quality and more durable than what is marketed at craft store chains.

You can really put vinyl anywhere it will stick. It can make a nice accent decor for mirrors and windows. Furniture can be given a new life with the right die cut pattern, and walls, doors and hallways can be enhanced with accent pieces that are functional and decorative. You can even put it on your mugs and other dinnerware, but remember to not place it anywhere that will come in contact with your food and beverages. Vinyl is easily removable from most surfaces, but be careful to test a discrete area with a sample piece first to be sure.
